In 1876 retired minister Samuel Cooper started his hosiery business initially to help lumberjacks who suffered from socks with bad quality and here S.T. Cooper & Sons (Jockey’s predecessor) was born with the philosophy of providing customers with comfort, fit, and quality with every product. By 1878, the business grew so much that they were already producing about 2500 pairs of stockings every day. After the success in hosiery they moved on to men’s underwear and thus became the Jockey we now know. Jockey has been successfully marketing, manufacturing, and retailing women’s and men’s loungewear and intimates in more than 8000 department, specialty, and club stores in the US today. They also operate around 100 retail shops and they have gained measurable success in e-commerce too. Jockey is also distributed internationally.
